To create an ultralight sock that’s as comfortable as it is supportive, Assos took a hard look at the yarns themselves. Testing in warm-weather conditions eventually led to Hydrogen, a buttery-soft microfiber that’s blended with Lycra to deliver a light compressive hold along the foot, ankle, and lower leg using a seamless construction. From there they targeted the arch, wrapping it with a ribbed band of airy mesh for further support and boosted breathability, along with a contrasting band along the Achilles for a clean finish.

A new blend of carbon and polypropylene yarns have been strategically arranged to manage moisture much better than previous iterations, resulting in a breathable, antibacterial short-sleeved first layer that keeps you cool and dry from the base up. The Circular Seamless construction introduces a tubular knit that's free of side seams, creating an ultrasoft, comfortable feel against the body. The sleeves are sewn directly into the armhole to promote a full range of motion beneath additional layers.

Extreme, insulated protection for extreme weather, the Ultraz Glove is the ultimate platform for weatherproof cycling when time off the bike isn't an option. When the conditions are extreme in high summer or deepest, coldest winter, cycling equipment is either equally extreme or it's useless. Compared to the standard Winter gloves, the Ultraz model adds a neoprene cuff and an insulating lining to a more robust softshell material, boosting heat retention behind the breathable, weatherproof exterior. Winter cycling can be a peaceful, meditative experience, but only if you're properly equipped. Airblock is a more robust softshell than that used in our standard winter glove, increasing insulation while maintaining breathability and wind- and waterproof protection. Insulated winter-weight gloves will never fit like summer gloves, but our anatomic cut reduces bunching and bulk while still accommodating sub layers. The fast get faster with the evolution of Assos' Equipe SS Jersey. Precise patterning and sharp finishing details deliver the next generation of speed and race-ready comfort. To begin, they applied their proven circular knit miniCheck Tex, which is a highly elastic 3D knit fabric that’s been specifically developed with breathability and moisture transfer in mind. At the rear, they incorporated their Stabilizer textile, which secures the jersey with its limited vertical-stretch composition. The aggressive position speed-focused riders take also informed the material choice for the new raw + bonded sleeves, yoke, and pockets, which needed to be as buttery smooth and flexible as possible. Assos' fine-gauge warp knit Push Pull textile was just the ticket, providing high UV protection (UPF 50+) along with its quick-drying, bi-stretch properties. Beyond the more precise aeroFit patterning, additional purpose-driven details also contribute to increased speed and comfort. It begins in the front with the ultralight bonded camlock zipper, taped waist, and the combination of raw + bonded sleeves for both comfort and hold. In the back Assos employed their proven triple ramp pockets to lock in your cargo, along with a lighter elastic on the hem for further weight savings.

RX Heavy makes up the majority of the paneling. This brushed warp-knit fabric is a beefed-up version of our workhorse RX, featuring an ECO water-repellent treatment for further protection from light precipitation. Its lighter-weight sibling, RX Light, is an asymmetrical-stretch warp-knit fabric that provides light insulation and boosts comfort in high-flex areas. The fit falls into our regularFit category, optimized for total comfort in the riding position, and with a more relaxed cut than our second skin racingFit.

BEHIND THE PRODUCT These bib shorts are appropriate for cooler temperatures that don’t yet warrant knee or full-leg coverage. The thermal insulation is reinforced with inclusions (the twinDeck construction on the crotch panel) and omissions (we left out the kraterCooler chamois ventilation in that same panel) designed to preserve core warmth without providing too much coverage. The balance of warmth and breathability recommend these shorts for tempo efforts and base miles in cool temperatures, and the addition of warmers—secured with the shorts’ Ultralight Leg Grippers—lets them follow the mercury still further down the thermometer.

Since weather can come from all sides, we charted 360º protection and comfort to ensure that the element-facing section of your legs and glutes remains protected from snow, rain, wind, and low temperatures, while the backs of the legs benefit from added breathability and comfort in this high-flex zone. To boost the Ultraz Bib Tights’ performance, we’ve pre-shaped and sewn the fabric panels to fully wrap and support the upper leg muscles, knees, and calves while in motion, where they flex with each pedal stroke.

With the 160-gram Equipe RSR Bib Shorts S9, Assos started from scratch and re-engineered the platform as a whole—and came away with the lightest, most comfortable race-spec bib shorts to ever leave their laboratory. These bibs are made with Type 701kompressor material that delivers the perfect combination of compressive hold, durability, soft hand-feel, and the lowest weight possible. In other words, the material becomes your second skin, delivering phenomenal structural hold, breathability, and a silky smooth, uninterrupted wrap along the low back and thighs. Assos' new bracing system works together to stabilize the shorts and secure the insert in place. The S9 generation incorporates just two panels, with a primary “butterfly” panel fully wrapping the legs and converging in the rear to form the ergoBox structure. This design effectively frames the insert in place and provides you with an ultra-comfortable wrap that works in conjunction with Type 701 material for the best fit ever produced. The bib straps have also been redesigned using calibrated stretch throughout, with the rear section using a single section of elastic material—folded over on itself—forming an A-frame in the back. It delivers limited vertical stretch in order to add further stability. In the front, the straps are made of a more flexible material, with an antibacterial carbon weave, to lay flat and wick moisture. Assos also focused on a single insert platform, which allowed the freedom to reassess what is most crucial to a streamlined, race-spec insert. They reduced the overall footprint to shed additional weight, employed superAir microShock foam with 3D waffle, incorporated the kraterCooler system to increase airflow up front, and took additional measures to anchor the insert at the rear with a patented horizontal stabilizer. The result? Total ASSOS comfort you’ve come to know and trust, stabilized more than ever.

To keep your Avid brakes functioning properly, check your pads for wear and replace them when necessary. Organic compound pads are softer for quieter braking and increased modulation, while metallic pads dissipate heat better and last a bit longer. Two pads, one retraction spring and a mounting bolt are included (enough for one brake) in each pad set. And, choose an aluminum backing plate if you're really counting the grams.
